I recommend more ram than that (it never hurts), but the way Mavericks manages resources (RAM, app nap, timer coalescing, etc) is far more efficient. Mavericks only requires 4GB of ram and a computer early-mid 2008 or newer to run. If you create/delete a lot of files and-or have under 200mb free space at all times, you will probably still benefit from an offline full defrag. It very much depends on your usage patterns, and amount of free space.
